Local Softball & Baseball Teams Begin State Championship Quest

Five local softball and baseball teams begin their quest for a state championship today (Tuesday). More from NewsRadio WGNS' Bryan Barrett...

Siegel baseball doesn't have to go far for their 4 o'clock game with Summitt. It will be played on their home field, since the TSSAA designated Siegel and Oakland as Class AAA sites. Jon Dinkins and I will have this game on the air, beginning at 3:50 pregame. Stewarts Creek, in only their third year, will play Ravenwood at Oakland High School and in Class-Double-A, Central Magnet will take on Greeneville. Both of those game also begin at 4pm.

Two of the eight teams in Class Triple-A softball this year are from Murfreesboro. The last time we had two in Spring Fling softball was in 2013, when Smyrna won the state title and Riverdale was also in the field. It also happened in 2009, when Riverdale won the state title and Siegel finished fourth.

Stewarts Creek will play this afternoon at 5:30 versus Brighton. The game will be at Star Plex and on NewsRadio WGNS, in progress, right after our baseball coverage. Siegel begins play Wednesday morning at 11:30. We will wait on Tuesday's game results before determining our Wednesday broadcasts.

Join us all week long for coverage of local teams in this year's baseball and softball state tournaments from Spring Fling 2016. I'm Bryan Barrett, NewsRadio WGNS
