The Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) will temporarily convert the Murfreesboro Emergency Department to an Urgent Care Center with 12 hour normal operation coverage from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. effective immediately.

Clinical and support staff will provide 24/7 coverage in the Emergency Department until January 2, 2015 while Veterans and community partners are notified.

Area healthcare facilities, congressional offices, Veteran service organizations, community partners and ambulance services are being notified of the change.

The Health System plan moving forward is to return the Emergency Department to its previous designation. This change will allow executive leadership the opportunity to align resources and clinical infrastructure to meet the quality and patient safety needs of Veterans.

Until then, staff will ensure any Veteran that presents for care at the Urgent Care Center is appropriately triaged, stabilized, and transferred to the Nashville campus or appropriate community facility. This will not affect the employment status of any Health System employee.

Monthly Operating Statistics of the Murfreesboro Emergency Department for December 2013:

  • Emergency Department Patients Seen: 1,427
  • Admissions from Emergency Department: 195
  • Emergency Department Psychiatry Admissions: 69
