Making good on a promise

You never know what Deputy Andy Pugh will do to encourage the Sheriff's Explorers for the regional Winterfest competition in February.

Pugh, who is an Explorers' adviser, took the challenge from some members to allow them to apply makeup to his face if they won top places.

The Explorers members are students at least age 14 who have completed 8th grade to age 21 who learn about law enforcement in weekly meetings.

They demonstrated their skills at Winterfest earning first place in interview and interrogation, third in DUI stops, fifth in drug identification and ninth in felony stops.

Pugh sat patiently for about 45 minutes during the meeting Thursday while Explorer Capt. Malia Xayachack and Sgt. Arielle Cooper used their skills to apply eyeliner and mascara to his eyes, powder and foundation to his face and lipstick to his mouth.

The question now... What will be Pugh's challenge next year?
