On November 4, 2015, Murfreesboro Police officers responded to a parking lot in the 400 block of N. Thompson Lane in reference to an attack on a female. Detectives believe that 48-year old Michael J. Mayner violently sexually assaulted a 34 year old female in a parking lot.

Several witnesses stepped in and broke up the attack, according to Sgt. Kyle Evans. The suspect fled the area but was arrested by responding officers in a nearby parking lot. The victim was transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital where she was treated and released.

On June 3, 2015 Mayner will appear in a Rutherford County Courtroom to hear the evidence against him to support two charges of Aggravated Kidnapping, one charge of Aggravated Assault and two charges of Aggravated Sexual Battery.

Mayner, who came to Murfreesboro from North Carolina, is currently jailed at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.
