The man accused of killing Murfreesboro resident Daniel Cartwright in 2010 and who was convicted of voluntary manslaughter filed an appeal in court suggesting insufficient evidence.

Clifton Williams killed Cartwright when he came to his apartment demanding to see a man who went by the alias of “Small Head.” Williams told the jury that Cartwright was with two other men when they arrived at his door to discuss a TV and X-Box that had been stolen from a friend’s home. It was during a brief confrontation that Williams shot Cartwright. Despite the brief confrontation, it was revealed that Cartwright never threatened Williams.

The Court of Criminal Appeals in Nashville reviewed the case that was originally before Judge David Bragg and affirmed the judgments of the trial courts. Williams will remain behind bars with the possibility of parole in 2015.
