Man on bike struck by motorist on Broad Street

A bicyclist was struck by an unknown person driving a minivan in Murfreesboro early Monday morning. The accident occurred on NW Broad Street near Thompson Lane.

Victim Robert Maples reported that he was riding on the shoulder of the road when he was struck. A witness advised that the minivan was tan in color and was seen tailgating a Nissan Juke when it left its lane of travel and ventured onto the shoulder of the road hitting the victim.

Police were able to recover a passenger side mirror from the van that broke off when the vehicle hit the bicyclist. The van was that of a 1999 to 2005 Chevy Venture, tan in color.

The 44 year old bicyclist is expected to recover from his injuries, but the driver of the van has yet to be caught.
