Man who allegedly rented a gun at local shooting range commits suicide

A man who allegedly rented a gun from On Target Shooting Range in Murfreesboro to use at the indoor shooting facility, reportedly turned the gun on himself Monday afternoon around 1. According to a police report that NewsRadio WGNS obtained on Tuesday morning, the 56-year old J.D. Todd Road man was on the floor of the shooting range when he allegedly committed suicide.

When paramedics arrived at the range, they began chest compression's, however the man was pronounced dead upon his arrival to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. The rear entrance to the hospital is almost directly across the street from On Target, which is located on North Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro.

According to a local resident who did not want to be named in the story, the suicidal victim rented the handgun, fired a few rounds on the range and then walked outside for a brief period of time. Upon returning to the range, the man evidently shot himself.
