Around 8:00 o'clock Monday night, Smyrna Police answered what is described as a "domestic call" at a home in the 1900 block of Almaville Road. That's just past the Nissan plant, going toward the Smyrna Airport, and near Sonic Drive-In.

Reports indicate that a man armed with a rifle, barricaded himself in a home with family. He allegedly fired shots, but a family member was able to get the gun away from him. Once he was disarmed, family members escaped and called the Smyrna Police.

The man remained inside the home, and Smyrna negotiators worked to convince him to surrender. The police SWAT team was also on alert outside the home. As a safety precaution, that heavily traveled section of Almaville Road was closed to traffic throughout the situation.

As of 10:30 Monday evening, the standoff continued. Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold said there had been no contact with the man inside the home. Although family members got the rifle from him, it was thought he now had another gun.
