Mary Mancini, chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, made a statement to the press on the national and state election results:

"First, I want to congratulate Hillary Rodham Clinton on her campaign and thank everyone who worked so hard for the people of this country on her behalf. It's been an eventful and long campaign season to say the least, but now we must look to the future when this country must once again come together to work on some of the serious issues we face and help to build a brighter future for all.

For Tennessee Democrats, this is not a moment, it's a movement. Progress takes time and I am incredibly proud and in awe of the hard work our candidates, campaign staff, county parties, elected officials, state executive committee members, college and young Democrats, Democratic Women, and Tennessee Democratic Party staff have done over the past two years. Today I can tell you that we have made great strides in offering a real alternative to the Republican status quo. I can also tell you that we will not stop working for ordinary Tennesseans until everyone in the state has access to quality and affordable health care and pay equity. We will not stop working until every child in every zip code has access to a quality public education. We will not stop working to create good-paying jobs and making sure that every worker is treated with dignity and respect. And we will continue the fight for criminal justice reform and more ethics, oversight, and government accountability.

I am thankful to every Democrat across the state and want them to be assured that even though the campaigns are over, Democrats will continue our efforts to build a more fair and just Tennessee."
