(MURFREESBORO) Around 10:00 o'clock Monday (12/9/2019) morning Murfreesboro Fire Rescue received a call about a fire at Westbrook Towers on 515 North Walnut Street.
When firefighters arrived , they were directed to a vacant apartment. Construction crews were making renovations when the fire began.
Public Information Officer Larry Flowes told NewsRadio WGNS that the seven-story senior living provider was evacuated for the safety of occupants.
Once firefighters deemed everything safe, the residents were escorted back to their apartments.
Station number 4 on Medical Center Parkway was one of the responders. Captain Chase Martin explained, "The construction company had the situation under control and windows were open and airing-out the apartment before firefighters arrived."
He said construction crews had the power off in the apartment while they were making renovations. An electronic tool was sitting on the stove, and prior to the power being turned back-on, someone accidentally turned-on the cooking surface.
