In the most recent case, which is drug related, a Murfreesboro Police Officer says that he pulled onto the property and viewed a vehicle that he suspected was being used for the purpose of making meth.
The officer evidently approached the car on foot and when he neared the vehicle the culprit fled at a high rate of speed. The report stated, “above suspect put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated at such a high rate of speed, white smoke appeared from the tires.” The report also shows the suspect nearly hit the officer and the officer wrote, “I was in fear of serious bodily injury.” The car fled the parking lot and onto South Church Street and to Rutherford Boulevard reaching speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.
The pursuit reached the Cannon County line where the chase was called off. Warrants were later obtained for suspect Joshua Russell. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault, felony evading, felony reckless endangerment, and driving on a revoked license for a 4th offense. So far, Russell has not been arrested, but his abandoned Chevy Cavalier was recovered in Woodbury.
