More on the Transgender Bathroom Issue in Local Schools

Former State Representative Joe Carr recently told WGNS that he was upset over the Obama administration's new directive that every public school must provide bathroom access to any student based on what they believe their sex to be, or face a loss of federal funding. Carr is currently running for Congress in the sixth district which represents a portion of Rutherford County and several nearby counties.

After we aired the story, WGNS got a phone call from Geoffery Smith who is also running for congress.

Smith is running for the 3rd Congressional District of Tennessee.

Smith told WGNS that he agrees with Carr on the transgender issue and went on to suggest that the President lacks the power to mandate Tennessee schools to allow children to use the restroom of their choice based on their thoughts of what gender they relate with...

The directive by President Obama on Monday instructs all public schools to allow transgender students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity, not their gender from birth. Schools that fail to follow the President's directive could stand to lose federal funding.
