(MURFREESBORO) The first of two public meetings this week between the Rutherford County Commission and the Rutherford County state delegation took place Monday (1/6/2020) night in the Historic Rutherford County Courthouse. The second public meeting is set for this coming Wednesday (1/8/2020) night from 6:00 to 8:00PM in the Smyrna Town Center at 100 Sam Ridley Parkway.
From the Rutherford County delegation State Senator Shane Reeves, along with State Representatives Charlie Baum and Mike Sparks interacted with the county commissioners.

State Representative Charlie Baum had great news fromT-DOT about Jefferson Pike project . . .
Representative Baum noted that the county commission and local state delegates need to now move to the next projects. He eplained that those appeared to be the Rock Springs interchange in Smyrna and improvements on Almaville Road.
State Senator Shane Reeves said Rutherford County's heavy traffic has gotten the state's attention and we are getting Tennessee's first Smart Corridor along a 28-mile section of I-24 . . .
Senator Reeves noted that this Smart Corridor is scheduled to be finished by the Winter of 2023.
Traffic and education were the two topics that kept re-appearing. Commissioner Jeff Phillips asked if the state would fund loans to build new schools in Rutherford County? He stressed that these would be loans, not gifts . . .
Then Representative Sparks noted that if you really wanted to "think out of the box" and reduce the expenses associated with the exploding number of students, you might encourage more "home schooling". He noted that its gaining popularity, and we might reduce expenses by going in that direction.

It was interested to watch the interaction between the county and state elected officials, since both are viewing issues from the perspective of what would it take to gain approval.
