Middle Tennessee junior receiver Ty Lee has been named to the 2018 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. More from the Voice of the Blue Raiders, Chip Walters:
Lee, a preseason All C-USA selection, enters the 2018 season as one of the most productive pass catchers in program history. The Moultrie, Ga., native currently ranks fifth all-time in receptions (142), seventh in receiving yards (1,654) and 10th in touchdown receptions (14).
Lee was an all-conference honoree last season after being named Freshman All-American and earning a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman team in 2016.
There was no sophomore slump for the versatile and durable Lee, who was one of just four players on the team to start and play all 13 games in 2017, turning in one of the best single seasons in Blue Raider history. He capped the season with a career-best 79 receptions (fourth most in a single season) for 955 yards (seventh for a single season).
Lee ranked 19th nationally and first in C-USA in receptions per game in 2017 when he had seven or more receptions in six games.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. The award recipient is selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted.
Receivers are periodically added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN. College and pro football Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff will announce the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner on the show.
