MTAR invites golfers to 39th Annual Bill Carey Golf Scramble

One perfect swing. One dream stroke that sends a tiny white ball into a tin - perhaps plastic - cup. Whoops! And high-fives follow all around. Any golfer can tell you, nailing a hole-in-one is certainly something to celebrate.

Golf Digest magazine estimates the odds of an average golfer making a hole-in-one at 12,000 to one and sinking one on a designated hole at 48,000 to one. But, the odds are a lot better that someone will drive away with a new Ford Escape on June 8 if he or she eagles the par-three 15th hole during the 39th Annual Bill Carey REALTOR® Golf Scramble at Indian Hills Golf Club in Murfreesboro. It's a certainty!

It is also a certainty that whether or not anyone makes a hole-in-one, some local high school seniors in the Middle Tennessee Association of REALTORS® 8-county area will get a financial boost on their way to college, and the American Diabetes Association will have more money to conduct its life-saving programs. In 2015, MTAR presented 7 scholarships to local high school seniors.

Golfers wanting to enter the scramble as an individual or a team should contact the MTAR office at 615-893-2242. Entries will be accepted up to and including the day of the tournament, but the earlier the entries, the better organizers can plan.

Ford of Murfreesboro is sponsoring the Hole-in-One prizes, which includes a two-year lease on a Ford Escape (a $10,000 value) or a stay-and-play golf trip to Treetops Golf Resort in Gaylord, Michigan. But, the important thing to remember is that this historic golf tournament (the original Rutherford County golf scramble) provides scholarships for high school seniors in the region and supports the American Diabetes Association.

Players will receive some more tangible benefits as well. There will be cash and trophies for winning teams, prizes for skill shots and putting, gifts for every participant and a great "after party" at the Indian Hills Golf Clubhouse. This makes for a wonderful day and evening for the players. In addition, the entry fee includes lunch, beverages on the course, a custom leather golf glove from Blue Raider Athletic Association, a framed photo taken on the course and more.

Tournament organizers are hoping to field 24-36 teams for the scramble so MTAR can continue and even enhance the charity work begun by REALTOR® Bill Carey, who started it all in 1976. The cost is $100 for an individual and $400 for a team. Because so many REALTORS® and other businesses are providing, food, drinks, prizes and trophies, all proceeds can go toward the MTAR Scholarship Fund and the American Diabetes Association.

June 8 is a Wednesday, so participants will have an opportunity to golf their way through "hump day". Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m.
