Coach Fred Shambaugh has announced his resignation as head coach of the MTCS football program.

In his six years as head coach, Coach Shambaugh led the Cougars to a 42-25 record, the school's first district championship, and their first trip to the TSSAA state quarterfinals. Throughout his tenure, the Cougars maintained success as perennial postseason participants as the school transitioned into TSSAA Division II and celebrated the first Mr. Football winner in school history in 2019.

He will be taking a head coaching position at Dallas Christian School in Mesquite, Texas.

Coach Shambaugh states, "It has been an honor serving the families that make up the MTCS community. I've always said the strength of MTCS is the amazing people it brings together. My family will cherish those relationships forever."

"Our MTCS community will miss Coach Shambaugh and his family. He is a wonderful classroom teacher, a Christian example to our students, and he successfully led our football program through our transition into TSSAA Division II." Dr. Robert Sain, Secondary Principal, states.

An immediate search for the next leader of the MTCS football program has begun. Offensive coordinator, BJ Robertson, will serve as interim head coach. Coach Robertson has been a member of the Cougar coaching staff for three seasons.

President Matt Tiller says, "We thank Coach Shambaugh for his valued leadership on the field, in the classroom, and as a spiritual leader in our community, and we wish him and his family continued success in their future endeavors. While Coach Shambaugh will be greatly missed, we are confident God will provide the right individual to build on our current tradition of excellence and take MTCS Football to the next level."
