(MURFREESBORO) Murfreesboro Police are investigating a murder that happened around 9:00 o'clock Monday (8/6/2018) night at 614 East Street, near Ewing Boulevard.

Police Officer Amy Norville tells NewsRadio WGNS that they responded to a shots fired call. When they arrived, they found 38-year old James Matthew Poynter (10/29/1979) in the driver seat of a vehicle in the driveway of 614 East Street. He had been shot multiple times.

Poynter was treated on scene by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department personnel and Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services who then transported him to the ER at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Norville says there is no suspect information at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
