Murfreesboro Closings for Memorial Day

In observance of Memorial Day, all City of Murfreesboro offices, some recreational facilities, and St. Clair Street Senior Center, will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2016. Boro Beach, Sports*Com's outdoor pool will be open from 10 a.m. - 4:30 p. m. and Adams Tennis Complex will be open regular hours from 7 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. For Schedule of Fees and Hours for Adams Complex, visit http://www.murfreesborotn.gov/index.aspx?nid=808.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.

On Saturday, May 28, at 10 a.m., scouting and other youth groups are invited to place flags on more than 7,000 headstones in Stones River National Cemetery. Groups are invited to pre-register by calling the Battlefield Park. The SRNB Memorial Day program will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 29, 2015.

Rover, the City's public transportation service, will not run on Memorial Day.

There will be no garbage pick-up on Monday, May 29. Monday's garbage pick-up will be Tuesday, May 31, and Tuesday's garbage pick-up will be Wednesday, June 1.

City Hall business will resume regular hours of operation, which are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 31.
