For the nineteenth consecutive year the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Murfreesboro with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

"We know the public trust in the City begins with our ability to properly manage our finances and to have documentation that meets rigorous standards," said City Manager Rob Lyons. "For the 19th straight year the employees in the City of Murfreesboro Finance and Tax Department have demonstrated accounting and financial reporting excellence, maintaining confidence that our audit is prepared in accordance with guidelines recognized by GFOA."

"We are pleased to once again receive this recognition from GFOA," said Finance Director and City Recorder/Treasurer Melissa Wright. "I give credit to our dedicated staff in the Finance and Tax Department who deserve recognition for the hard work in attaining this achievement. Jobe, Hastings & Associates CPAs should also be recognized for their hard work and diligent efforts with our annual report."

The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The City also participates in the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards program which is the only national program in governmental budgeting. Participation began for fiscal year 2013 and the City has received the budget presentation award for 5 conservative years.
