Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department’s District 8, Engine 1, and Engine 3 responded to a possible residential fire at 910 Brown Drive (University Terrace Apartments in Murfreesboro) just after 7:00 Wednesday evening.

According to Police and Fire Dispatch, a neighbor’s smoke alarm had been going off for quite some time and the smell of smoke was entering the neighbor’s apartment.

When crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke in the apartment involved. Crews worked quickly to remove the smoke. Fortunately, there was no fire.

The heavy smoke appeared to have been caused by unattended cooking, according to Captain Hunter Fite.

“This could have been a lot worse for sure,” said Fite.
