Picking a fight with a Judge is a very, very bad idea.

Rutherford County Judge Larry Brandon had just finished shopping at a retail store on Old Fort Parkway when he was approached by a man in his forties. Judge Brandon was in the check-out line of Hobby Lobby when the suspect walked up to him and asked him if he is a judge? The Judge told police after answering “Yes,” the suspect kicked him in the leg.

Judge Brandon defended himself with a plastic shopping basket and the suspect took off running after receiving a cut on the arm from the basket. The Judge told authorities that he recognized the subject from his courtroom, but could not remember his name.  A little detective work led police to 43-year old Gary Greg Moncier. Judge Brandon positively identified the culprit and police placed him under arrest.  Moncier shed some light on why the alleged assault occurred during questioning. The report shows, “Moncier said he was upset because of several motions he filed and assistance he requested were denied.”

Moncier, who works as a bus driver for the local Boys and Girls Club reportedly told police as he was being booked that his actions were not worthy of a mentor, which is a role he assumes as a driver for the Boys and Girls Club. The suspect will appear in court on July 9, 2013. He was officially charged with simple assault and retaliation for past action.
