Murfreesboro Medical Welcomes New Doctor

Murfreesboro Medical Clinic is proud to announce the addition of Marcus A. Owen, MD, to the Rheumatology department. Dr. Owen is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine for both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.

Dr. Owen hails from Hot Springs, AR and earned his Bachelor of Administration in Spanish from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. From 1996-1997, he studied Forestry under a Fulbright scholarship in Southern Chile. He attended medical school at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR, where he also completed his Internship and Residency. Dr. Owen then completed a two-year rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.

Dr. Owen will be joining Dr. Asim Razzaq at MMC Rheumatology. “It’s exciting to partner with someone as well-rounded as Dr. Owen. His ability to see the big picture makes him an exceptional physician and a compliment to the department,” said Dr. Razzaq.

Dr. Owen practiced for two years in Tupelo, MS and then moved to Tennessee in 2009. He spent four years at a rheumatology practice in downtown Nashville before opening his own practice, Stones River Rheumatology, in Murfreesboro. Dr. Owen met his wife, Sara, while attending medical school in Little Rock. They have two children and Sara practices Internal Medicine in Smyrna.  “We work diligently to attract high-quality physicians like Dr. Owen. He is a gifted specialist and engaging individual,” commented CEO, Joseph A. Peay. “I’m eager to find out what kind of achievements and advancements he’s going to make at the Clinic and the community.”   

The MMC Rheumatology department specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adults with rheumatic and immunologic diseases. While Dr. Owen treats all of these conditions, his emphasis will be on Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Gout, Osteoporosis, Lupus, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Scleroderma, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Polymyositis, Vasculitis, Tendonitis/Bursitis, and other Musculoskeletal Disorders.
