Murfreesboro Warns of TAX SCAM Involving Murfreesboro Businesses

The Murfreesboro Police Department is warning residents and businesses to watch for an email scam. One local victim stated that her business received an email from someone claiming to represent the City of Murfreesboro. The email stated that the business owed Beer or Liquor taxes to the City and provided an online link for the business owner to follow. This is a scam and recipients should not respond to the email.

While the City of Murfreesboro is happy to assist residents and businesses through email, all initial tax correspondences, including billing and requests for payment, are done through regular mail.

Anyone who receives this email or any suspicious email is encouraged to call MPD Communications at 893-1311 and file a report over the phone.
