The City of Murfreesboro has announced that Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Department employees Terry Taylor, Dale Richardson, Steve Richardson, Andy Landrum, Josh Alcorn, Ben Weatherford, and Dana McKenney were recognized for their outstanding work at Old Fort Golf Club during the July 11th, 2013 meeting of the Murfreesboro City Council for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence.”

This past spring, a main water line experienced a severe break at Old Fort Golf Club. Due to the location of the break, and the depth of the hole that had to be dug to reach the line, the job required certain safety restrictions. Upon realizing the severity of the break, the golf course staff recommended asking the Water and Sewer Department for assistance.  Mr. Terry Taylor, Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Operations Manager and his Operations and Maintenance staff understood the situation and responded quickly to the situation. The golf course’s staff could not have done the repairs without putting several employees in danger or hiring out the repairs to an outside company that would have cost the City several thousand dollars for the repairs.

The STARS nomination from Mr. Wilkins stemmed from how cooperative Mr. Taylor and his staff were to addressing the situation. The timeliness of the response was crucial in the importance of getting the waterline back into operation, as it is the life blood of the golf course. This type of cooperation and service for each other further exemplifies how the employees of the city help to create a better quality of life for its' citizens.

Darren Gore, Murfreesboro Water and Sewer Director stated, “I’m proud to work with such conscientious, respectful co-workers, and am doubly proud that they were so eager to help another City Department.  Operations and Maintenance personnel don’t always get the recognition they deserve.  Some days they face real tough working conditions, but everyone in Operations and Maintenance knows that keeping customers in service with a safe supply of drinking water and disposing of sanitary sewer in a manner that protects public health is critical to the quality of life mission pledged by the City.”
