Murfreesboro Woman Falls Victim to IRS Scam - She lost $17,000

A 64 year old Murfreesboro woman feel victim to the IRS Scam.

According to a police report, the woman was called by a man claiming to be with the IRS. The subject told the victim that she owed money to the Internal Revenue Service for taxes in 2014 and 2015. The caller went on to tell the victim that she needed to pay $4,000 to avoid being arrested.

As instructed, the resident purchased I-Tunes Gift Cards to the tune of $4,000. She then gave the subject the card numbers, allowing him to take the money off the cards. A second call led the woman to purchase $13,000 more dollars on the gift cards to "Show good faith to the judge who issued the arrest warrant."

The woman was told not to speak to anyone about the case and that her money would be returned to her in the form of a check after Murfreesboro Police served her the arrest warrant.

The entire incident was a complete scam and now the woman is out $17,000. The case is under investigation. However, most cases like this fail to lead to an arrest.
