A Smyrna man has been identified as the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a crash on I-24 in Nashville. It happened on Friday around 8:30pm and claimed the life of 52-year old Ronald Acosta. Authorities report Acosta was traveling eastbound, toward Murfreesboro, on I-24. When he was close to the Old Hickory Boulevard exit in Antioch, he reportedly left his lane and struck a 2010 Ford Focus. Both vehicles left the roadway and were forced into a wooded area beside the interstate.
Authorities say Acosta was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his vehicle. Two people in the Ford Focus were taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Police also report there were open containers of alcohol and marijuana inside Acosta's vehicle. Testing is being conducted to see if those substances were in his system prior to the crash.
