Murfreesboro City Schools Director Dr. Linda Gilbert and Principal Don Bartch are proud to announce the addition of Natalie Hopkins as Assistant Principal for Scales Elementary.

Hopkins is currently a teacher at Cason Lane Academy and has worked in Murfreesboro City Schools since 2003. Hopkins has an extensive background working with children and teachers within Murfreesboro City Schools including serving as past president and current membership chair for Murfreesboro Education Association (MEA). 

Additionally, Hopkins was named as Cason Lane Teacher of the Year in 2012 and as MEA Teacher of the Year in 2008 and 2010. 

Ms. Hopkins brings a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and leadership to this position,” says Dr. Linda Gilbert.  “She is engrained in the community and understands the needs of our students, parents and teachers.”

Hopkins will join the leadership team of newly appointed Principal Maria Johnson and Assistant Principal Jenny Ortiz in January 2014.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity,” says Hopkins. “I believe parental and community involvement are essential to a successful school and classroom environment and I look forward to becoming a part of the Scales community.”

Hopkins received her undergraduate degree from MTSU.  She received her Masters of Education in Integrating Technology in the Classroom from Walden University and is scheduled to receive her Education Specialist Degree in 2014 from MTSU with an emphasis in Administration and Supervision.

The assistant principal opportunity at Scales comes after the appointment of current assistant principal Maria Johnson as Principal beginning in 2014. Mr. Bartch will also assume his new position at Overall Creek Elementary in January.

Scales has one of the largest student populations in the Murfreesboro City School district and enrolls nearly 1,100 students for the 2013-14 school year.
