A somber day to remember a friend and teammate. Several Riverdale football players, with black jerseys, were pallbearers for teammate Mitchell Maxwell. He was found dead inside his home on the Fourth of July by one of his brothers. The funeral for Maxwell was held yesterday (Monday) at First Baptist Church on East Main. He was laid to rest on the same day he was to move to Mississippi State. Maxwell had just graduated Riverdale and was planning to walk on to the football team.

While the official cause of death is awaiting a coroner's report, friend Spencer Walsh told Murfreesboro Police that Maxwell had been drinking codeine while the two were at a fireworks display. A police report indicates Maxwell went to bed around 1:30am and according to witnesses, was intoxicated. Emergency Medical Services and Murfreesboro Police arrived just before 12:50 Friday afternoon, where the teen was pronounced deceased. Walsh told police that he went to wake Maxwell for work and that's when he was found.
