Northfield Boulevard Extension

Talks to extend Northfield Boulevard through Broad Street and then over the Stones River continue and are still on the drawing board. The extension of Northfield, between the Ford dealer and Georgetown Square Shopping Center, would possibly include a bridge over Broad Street, crossing the Stones River.

City Manager Craig Tindall stated...

It is anticipated that the proceeds of the sale to Vanderbilt will more than offset the cost of constructing this segment of the Northfield extension.

The extension of Northfield Blvd. to N. Thompson Lane is one of the "short-term" improvements contemplated by the City's 2040 Major Transportation Plan. As part of the recent sale land to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the City is accelerating the construction of the segment from Gateway Blvd. to N. Thompson to accommodate Vanderbilt's proposed use of the property. It is anticipated that the proceeds of the sale to Vandy will more than offset the cost of constructing this segment of the Northfield extension.
