NUMBERS IN: Smyrna Police Department Reports Successful DUI Checkpoint Evening on Thursday

How effective are DUI checkpoints?  Two checkpoints were set-up last Thursday night (June 6, 2013)  by the Smyrna Police Department.  Robert Rickman has the statitics.

TAG:  The checkpoints were at the intersections of Old Nashville Highway & Rocky Fork Road and South Lowry Street & Stroop Lane in Smyrna.

VERBATIM:

Sergeant Andy Miller with the Smyrna P-D reported they checked 1,029 vehicles and detained 59 for further investigation. Out of that number, 7 car seats were inspected and 3 vehicles were searched by their K-9. We are told that 9 arrests were also made. Those arrests included the following:

  • 1 Charged with DUI
  • 1 Charged with Possession of Alcohol Under the Age of 21
  • 5 Charged with misdemeanor Drug Possession
  • 2 Arrests for driving without a license

A total of 48-citations were also issued during the checkpoints. Of the citations written, they included:

  • Car seat – 4
  • Seatbelt – 9
  • Equipment Violation – 8
  • Registration Violation – 18
  • Open Container – 1
  • No Insurance – 7
  • Disregard Traffic Device – 1
