Oakland High School HOSA Competition Winners and MORE

Multiple Oakland High School students tested in December and qualified to advance to the 2nd round of the regional competition for the Oakland HOSA - Future Health Professionals.

HOSA stands for "Health Occupations Students of America."

HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people.

Since its inception in 1976, HOSA has grown steadily reaching over 245,000 members through 54 chartered HOSA Associations.

Gabriel Freeman - Biomedical Lab Science
Ellen Bandy - Clinical Nursing
Lauren Barnes - Dental Science
Ivy Sells - Physical Therapy
Wyn Blankenship - Sports Medicine

Placed in online testing:

Kala Jimcoily - Dental Terminology - 1st place
Cason Buehler - Pharmacology - 2nd place

Competed Friday at Columbia State:

Martina Leach
Perla Tronco
Deondra Stafford - prep work - Public Health - 5th place
Ellen Bandy- Clinical Nursing - 1st place

MORE NEWS: Oakland High and Cosmetology

Oakland High School Cosmetology students SYLVIA GERHART and ALAYA TIBBS (below) competed in the SKILLS USA competition last week. Alaya Tibbs won second place in the Cosmetology competition. They will now compete on the state level in April in Chattanooga.
