One of two people accused of killing Lynn Orrand in the area of Richland Road in 1982 near Halls Hill Pike in Murfreesboro is asking the courts for post-conviction relief. Gary Wayne Bush is currently incarcerated in a state prison along with accomplice Candace Bush, his wife.

Looking back to what occurred in the 1980's, Candace Bush was married to Lynn Orrand when she and Gary Bush allegedly conspired to kill Orrand.

In 1982, the victim was shot in the back while hunting in Rutherford County and Gary Bush maintained it was an accident. After Orrand's death Candace married Gary Bush, the man accused of shooting Orrand. In 2007 Orrand's body was exhumed and the cold case was re-opened.

Gary Wayne Bush and Candace Bush were later convicted for the murder of Lynn Orrand. In March of this year (2015), Gary Bush filed an appeal suggesting that he received ineffective assistance of counsel because the trial counsel failed to call the Petitioner to testify in his own defense. The appeal courts did not agree with Bush and affirmed the judgement in the post-conviction courts. In other words, Gary Bush will be 99 when he is eligible for parole.

Note:

This is not the first time that Gary Bush has filed for post conviction relief. Both he and Candace filed post-conviction relief in 2013 and 2011. Both were denied. Candace and Gary Bush remain in prison and will be eligible for parole in year 2044 (Gary will be 99-years of age and Candace will be 91-years of age).
