Many Rutherford Countians took advantage of the early voting period, which ended Saturday. There were 17,514 early votes cast here. Of those, 13,333 voted in the Republican primary while 3,634 submitted votes in the Democratic primary. Over 352,000 voted early statewide. State election officials believe the turnout for early voting will constitute long lines at the polls on Thursday. They advise if you didn't take advantage of early voting to get to the polls early this Thursday and allow plenty of time to go through the long ballot. It's not only the state and federal primary but the Rutherford County general and Smyrna municipal elections that area voters will be considering at the ballot box. After the polls close Thursday, tune in to WGNS for live election coverage. Bart Walker and Bryan Barrett will have the latest results, which will also be posted here on WGNSRadio.com.
