Painkiller overdose after Murfreesboro man allegedly injects prescription drugs

Around noon on Monday (7/10/17), Murfreesboro Police received a phone call about a man who was found unconscious in the Vintage Blackman Apartment parking lot. The complainant suggested to dispatchers that the man may have overdosed on drugs.

When officers arrived at 553 Agripark Drive, they were told that the man eventually came to and when he stood up, a syringe fell to the ground. The man then made his way to his vehicle and drove away.

Police found the subject a short time later and noticed he had lacerations to his face, possibly from falling in the parking lot just minutes before.

The 35 year old man was questioned by police and admitted to injecting oxycodone while in the apartment complex parking lot. The subject was taken away by ambulance and his Acura SUV was left at the scene.

It was later confirmed that the man had been driving on a suspended license for failing to provide proof of insurance during a previous run in with the law. While the man was not arrested, he was issued a citation for driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia, which was the syringe he reportedly dropped.

Injecting or Snorting Painkillers:

Injecting or snorting painkillers in known as "Dose Dumping." The idea is nothing new on the streets. However, it causes a rapid release of medication into the body that pills are not designed to do. Many people die from dose dumping because they overdose and have respiratory failure.
