Patterson Park Community Center will open its doors free to the community for its “10 Strong” Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, November 2nd. The center was renovated and opened on August 2, 2003 which increased its size from 15,000 to its current 111,000 square feet. Join us in celebrating that last 10 years.
The celebration will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. Events will include: a Dedication Ceremony at 10:30 a.m., Pool Party from 1-4 p.m., and group exercise snip-its. There will be tours available, bounce houses, door prizes, entertainment, and refreshments as well.
The opening of the Patterson Center in 2003 was the culmination of a long-time dream of many in the Murfreesboro Community to have a multi-purpose public recreation venue sited amidst the older established neighborhoods in the inner city where many lacked the opportunity to access quality parks and recreation facilities.
The new Center replaced the older much smaller "neighborhood" Center that had been on the site since 1979. Even before 1979 the Patterson site had been the traditional site of many African-American events and activities going all the way back to the Rutherford County Colored Fair fondly remembered by many older citizens.
The Patterson Center has created access to quality recreation, wellness, and cultural programs to many by being located geographically where youth and adults can walk in from the surrounding neighborhoods. Access has also been enhanced greatly by the establishment of an aggressive financial assistance program that allows free or reduced access to over 1400 citizens.
Since the Center has opening participation in Center activities and events has increased every year validating the community's investment. Citizens come from near and far to participate in cultural events, to utilize the many rental facilities, to take part in safe and affirming after school programs, to participate in athletic events and to get fit.
Patterson Park Community Center is located at 521 Mercury Boulevard, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. For more information, please contact Tom Sage at 615-893-7439 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
