Peachtree Street Man "Stumbles" Into Trouble in Mercury Plaza Business

A 28-year old Peachtree Street man has been arrested after being found stumbling around a Mercury Plaza business. Murfreesboro Police report John Bates showed signs of being intoxicated when officers arrived Sunday afternoon around 3:40. Officer B. Troutman says he was so intoxicated, when approached he had a blank stare and had his mouth open. The officer reports he could see Xanax pills inside his mouth and he advised Bates not to swollow them. But he did anyway. Bates was charged with public intoxication and possession of a schedule four drug. When searched, Officer Troutman reported finding about 30 Xanax pills on him. Bates was also charged with tampering with evidence.
