Sunny skies, a gentle breeze and temperatures around 70--the perfect day for Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village's PIONEER DAYS on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

The community took advantage of the spring weather and toured the grist mill, went into the old general store, country church, saw potters and yarn spinners along with old time bluegrass favorites.

Cannonsburgh is the first name for Murfreesboro, and the original village was about where the full-size community is now located, 312 South Front Street. The original name honored a young politician named Newton Cannon. After about a month, Captain William Lytle thought the village should have a name-change to honor his friend Colonel Hardy Murfree. And in 1817 the General Assembly recognized Murfreesboro as "an official city". A year later Murfreesboro became the capital of Tennessee. It held that title until 1826 when Nashville was chosen.

Cannonsburgh was a project created during Tennessee's in 1976. Buildings were brought to the downtown Murfreesboro acerage from all parts of the county. There was a doctor's office, general store, working grist mill, telephone office, town hall, old home, barn, blacksmith shop and more that make up this full-size village.

It is operated by the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department, and Pioneer Days allow the community to step back to the 1800's and see how residents lived back then.
