Phone scams continue in Rutherford County

Over the phone scams continue to hit Murfreesboro costing some citizens thousands of dollars. Detective Jason Dowdle with the Rutherford County Sherriff's office explains some of the cases he has seen...

Detective Dowdle suggests you don't answer the phone if it is a number you don't recognize. He said that if the call is important, they will likely leave a message for you to call back.


Sometimes you may recognize the phone number calling you, but that does not mean that it is really the number calling you. Today, just about anybody can spoof a number. In other words, criminals can call you using a fake number that displays on your caller ID.
