A Murfreesboro Police vehicle was involved in a crash in the area of Warrior Drive shortly after 7:00 o'clock Wednesday night (12/6/17). Reports at this point indicate an undercover patrol unit was struck by the suspect vehicle from the rear near South Church Street. After the police vehicle was hit, the suspected driver is believed to have fled the scene onto Warrior Drive at a high rate of speed.

Shortly after the accident involving the patrol unit, the 23 year old suspect wrecked on Warrior Drive. The man struck a utility pole which sent live wires crashing to the roof of the car making it impossible for police to pull the man out until the wires were moved and electricity was shut off.

When the suspect was finally pulled out of the car, he had to be flown by Life Flight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. His condition is not known at this time. The case remains under investigation and charges have not been filed as of Thursday night.

Innocent Bystanders get in the Mix - Damaged Cars along the way:

A Warrior Drive resident was on their way home when they became involved in the incident. They told WGNS, "When I first heard the car, it was not yet visible. A few seconds later I looked in my mirror and saw him approaching my car rather quickly. I expected him to slow down, but he didn't. Instead, he crossed over into ongoing traffic, but while doing so--he side swiped my car, causing me to run off of the road. There was debris and sparks, from a pole, I assume, everywhere. I then see and hear the undercover police truck chasing him. After the truck passed, I continued to drive down Warrior Drive where I saw another police officer going in the same direction. Before approaching Salem Highway, I observed the white car in a ditch. He had run off of the road, I assume, and hit a pole."

Allegedly, other vehicles were also damaged that were traveling the path of the pursuit. The victim explained, "There were other cars damaged. One guy's windshield was cracked from the ropes (wires) off of the light pole."

The Warrior Drive resident continued, "From what I overheard, the driver of the white car hit the undercover police truck on Church at Warrior. At that point, the pursuit began."

Travis Plotzer with the TN Highway Patrol told WGNS, "The only preliminary information that is available right now is that we are investigating a multi vehicle crash in Murfreesboro City Limits. One of the vehicles involved belongs to the Murfreesboro Police Department. This is listed as an injury crash. The investigation is still ongoing at this point an no additional information is available."
