Murfreesboro City Councilman Eddie Smotherman announced that he will seek the Republican Party’s nomination for the 37th District, State Representative position during the August 7, 2014, primary election. The 37th District Seat is currently held by Representative Dawn White. Smotherman's city council term expires in 2016.

Smotherman, who is currently serving on the Murfreesboro City Council, said he has focused on property rights, education, parks, traffic, the budget, senior services and using common sense to improve the quality of life in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. Smotherman suggested in a press release that he would like to carry the same common sense approach to the state government.
