Seven Rutherford County football teams will be participating in the first round of the TSSAA state playoffs next Friday night.
In the Class 6A playoffs, Blackman (9-1), Oakland (9-1), Riverdale (8-2), Smyrna (6-4) and La Vergne (5-5) will represent District 7-AAA in the same quandrant.
Blackman earned the No. 1 seed and will host No. 8 seed Cane Ridge (5-5). The winner will face the winner of No. 4 Riverdale/No. 5 Smyrna, which met in the regular season finale last Thursday night.
No. 2 seed Oakland will host Mt. Juliet (5-5), with the winner meeting the victor of No. 3 Cookeville/No. 6 La Vergne. The Wolverines defeated Cookeville 38-17 at home on Oct. 24.
MTCS is a No. 2 seed based on its 52-28 win at Huntland on Friday night. The Cougars earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of No. 3 Trousdale County (7-3)/No. 6 Whitwell (6-4). MTCS beat Whitwell in overtime earlier this season on the road.
No. 5 Eagleville will travel to No. 4 Jackson County (6-4). The winner advances to face No. 1 seed Marion County in the second round.
