The Rutherford County Property Assessor says that he will hold a Greenbelt and Rollback Seminar on Tuesday (3/19/13) in the Assessors Office (319 N Maple 2nd Floor Murfreesboro,TN).
A Monday email from Property Assessor Rob Mitchell stated, “After so many questions and inquiries & complaints about assessments; I thought it would be helpful to conduct an informative seminar regarding greenbelt law and rollback taxes. Currently we have about 14 local attorneys and title searchers signed up to attend. The seminar is free, we just request you call for seating.”
The meeting will be at 9AM and will be directed by John Allen, assistant general counsel for the comptroller of Tennessee.

Brief examples of land that may qualify for Greenbelt status in TN:
Agricultural land is land which “constitutes a farm unit engaged in the production or growing of crops, plants, animals, nursery, or floral products.”
Forest land is property of 15 acres or more used in the growing of trees "under a sound program of sustained yield management" or with an amount and quality of tree growth which is managed like a forest.
Open space land is property of three acres or more maintained in an open or natural condition preservation of which benefits the public by conserving natural resources by providing a natural setting for people who might not otherwise have access to such a place.
Other Limitations The law limits the amount of land which qualifies for greenbelt to 1,500 acres per owner per county
