Ram's Traffic Challenges Through May 13th

Let's see--is this "Blackberry Winter", "Dogwood Winter"--whatever it is, Traffic Engineer Ram Balachandran says it impacts construction. Here are the areas to avoid between today and May 13th.

City Construction Projects

Bridge over Broad Street TDOT Project

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:00 pm to 6:00 am: There will be alternating lane closures on NW Broad Street, Memorial Blvd, Old Fort Pkwy and Ridgley Road for construction of the new Overpass. There will be lane shifts and traffic interruptions. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times. Broadmor Blvd is closed to through traffic for construction work. W Lytle Street at Broad St is opened to traffic and is restricted to right-in and right-out movements only. Westbound traffic has been shifted to the north side to align with the newly constructed ramp. On Broad St, the northbound and southbound left turn movements can only be made during a protected turn signal phase. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

W Lytle Street Roadway Improvement Project (Baker St to Church St)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: W Lytle Street will be closed to through traffic between Walnut St and Maple St for construction work. N Maple St between College St and Burton St and W Lytle St between N Maple St and N Walnut St will be closed to through traffic until end of May, 2017. Access driveways to local businesses will be kept open. Starting Wednesday, April 26 through Friday, May 12, the intersection of N Walnut St and W Lytle St will be closed for storm drain installation work. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

Rutherford County Judicial Center Project (between Burton St and Lytle St)

Expected Lane Closures: Wednesday, July 20, 2016 - April, 30 2017: As part of the Rutherford County Judicial Center construction, Burton St between Maple St and Church St will be closed to traffic to make roadway improvements. Burton St traffic will be detoured onto College St. Monday through Thursday, N Church St will be reduced to one lane flagging operation at Burton St. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.

Middle Tennessee Widening Project (Greenland Dr to E Main St)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday: Traffic on Middle Tennessee Blvd has been shifted to the east side and reduced to two-lanes two-way between E Main St and Greenland Dr. E Lytle St is closed at Middle Tennessee Blvd. The section of E Lytle St between N Bilbro Ave and Middle Tennessee Blvd is only open to local traffic. Appropriate traffic control signs and message boards will be in place.

Asplundh Tree Trimming Work (Northfield Blvd just west of Battleground Dr)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 2:30 pm: Contractor for Murfreesboro Electrical Department will be removing two trees on the north side of Northfield Blvd just west of Battleground Dr. Westbound traffic on Northfield Blvd will be reduced from two lanes to one lane operation. Eastbound traffic will not be affected. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

City Urban Environmental Department Tree Work

1) W College St at CSXT Railroad Underpass

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, Weather Permitting, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm: City Urban Environmental crews will be trimming tree limbs along W College St near the CSXT Railroad Underpass. W College St will be closed at the underpass and traffic will be detoured on Garrison Dr from the north and Brinkley Rd from the south. Access to local businesses and residents on W College St will be kept open. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

2) Haynes Dr between Ravenwood Dr and Long Meadow Dr.

Expected Lane Closures: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, Weather Permitting, 9:00 am to 11:00 am: City Urban Environmental crews will be removing damaged tree branches along Haynes Dr between Ravenwood Dr and Long Meadow Dr. Traffic will be reduced to one lane flagging operation. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

TDOT Roadway Improvements and Signalization Project (Manchester Pike at Dalton Mankin Rd)

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm: Contractor for TDOT will be making roadway and signalization improvements on Manchester Pike at Dalton Mankin Rd. There will be minor lane traffic shifts and traffic interruptions on Manchester Pike. Appropriate traffic controls will be in place.

TDOT Resurfacing I-24 from east of the CSX Railroad bridge (L.M. 19.07) to east of Epps Mill Road (L.M. 26.55) (Rutherford County)

Monday May 8 through Wednesday May 10, 8PM at 5AM: There will be alternating lane closures on I-24 Eastbound and Westbound from east of bridge over CSX Railroad (LM 19.07) to east of Epps Mill Road (LM 26.55) for Cold Planing (milling) operations. One lane will remain open in each direction.

Two (2) Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers are requested to be onsite beginning Monday May 8 through Wednesday May 10, 8PM at 5AM, for cold planning(milling) operations at the locations listed above.

Friday May 5 at 8PM through Monday May 8 at 5AM: I-24 Westbound Exit Ramp 89 (from I-24 WB onto Epps Mill Road) will be partially closed for removal and replacement of the concrete pavement. Additionally, the outside lane, I-24 westbound, will be closed at the ramp to allow work on the ramp.

One (1) Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper is requested to be onsite beginning Friday May 5 at 8PM continuously through Monday May 8 at 5AM for work on I-24 ramps listed above.

Annual City Street Paving Project

Expected Lane Closures: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM: City paving contractor will be paving the following streets:

1) Bellchase Dr, Lynnford Dr, National Dr, Heroes Ln

There will be lane closures and traffic interruptions. Appropriate traffic controls will be in-place.
