Rutherford County Fire-Rescue Department has opened its second fully staffed Station.

Chief Larry Farley said, "Rutherford County is experiencing massive growth and increase in the population, with these increases; it creates more call volume such as, house fires, motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies. There were over 2700 calls answered by the fire departments in Rutherford County last year."

They hired four firefighters last year to staff station number 5 during the daytime hours of 7 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Chief Farley explained, "This year the Rutherford County Commission passed the county fire department's 2016-2017 budget, which included eight additional firefighters to fully staff station 5 on East Jefferson Pike."

He continued, "Rutherford County Fire-Rescue Department will be providing fire suppression, vehicle rescue and medical first responder to the north end of the county. The Leanna, Walter Hill, Lascassas and Milton communities will benefit from this fully staffed station."

RCFRD received a two year FEMA Grant in 2014 which paid the salaries of twelve firefighters to fully staff station one, 24 hours a day, seven days a week on Barfield Road. That grant ended May 4 of this year.

These two fully staffed stations will help support and assist the volunteer fire department throughout the county and provide a higher level of protection to the citizens of Rutherford County.
