A detention officer at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office has been arrested on charges of child rape and aggravated sexual battery.

Rutherford County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni tells NewsRadio WGNS, 23-year old Mark Garza of Sequoya Trace, was placed on administrative leave with pay April 18 after they learned he was being investigated by Murfreesboro Police.

He was placed on administrative leave without pay April 28. Marchesoni says Garza was terminated after his arrest on indictments Thursday morning.

Murfreesboro Police report a Department of Children's Services and Child Protective Services investigation showed in October of 2013, an underage female went to use the bathroom, which was next to his bedroom.

The report states when she walked out, a man, later identified as Garza, was waiting outside. He reportedly forced the victim onto the bed and raped her.

The evidence was presented to the Rutherford County Grand Jury, which indicted him last month on charges of rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery.

Garza is scheduled to be in Rutherford County Circuit Court on June 12th at 9am.

Garza was hired June 20 and still on probation when terminated. He was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and released on $150,000 bond.
