Registration is open and underway for Murfreesboro Soccer Club's (MSC) Recreational and Select Summer Camps and the 2015/2016 Select Strikers and Recreational soccer program.

"We're excited to welcome back the hundreds of area young people we work with every year, as well as welcome for the first time many new young people who are moving into the area and the younger children of the area who are now of age to play soccer," said Leanna Wright, MSC Board President. "At MSC, we have strong programs for every young person who wants to grow and develop as both a soccer player and a person."

Murfreesboro Soccer Club, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization, was formed in 1977 and has served thousands of young people with recreational and select soccer since that time. MSC operates the recreational soccer program for the City of Murfreesboro.

A volunteer board of director leads MSC with officers Leanna Wright, President; Troy Robinson, Vice President; Dennis Buckley, Secretary; and Alan Vendur, Treasurer. Board members are Anthony Togrye, Art Fuller, Becky Smith, Jason Morrison, Bryan Kleparek, Carlos Cornel, Mike Cowles, Matt LaBlanc, Max Moss, Robert Kini, George Tucker, Stephen St. Amour and Brian Yochum. MSC Staff members are Ivan Jackson, Director of Coaching; Ali Arman, Technical Director, U8-U12; Erich Delfs, Technical Director, U13-U18, and Alan Oates, Technical Director, College Advisory Program and Administrative Assistant, Sharon Barnett.

Recreational Soccer Summer Camps

MSC offers recreational summer camps annually for players ages 5 through 12. Every child who wants to participate, learn how to play soccer and improve his or her soccer skills, is encouraged to attend. • The Junior Camp ages 5 through 8 is Monday, July 13 through Friday, July 17, from 9 a.m. until Noon. The cost is $150.
• The Senior Camp ages 9 through 12 is Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24, from 9 a.m. until Noon. The cost is $150.

Each camp will focus on individual player development as well as improving team play through the use of instructional and fun age-appropriate skill, drills and small-sided games. Participants will learn new soccer skills and further develop their existing soccer skills. The curriculum for each camp includes: ball control; dribbling; passing; goal scoring; 1v1 play and team shape. All campers will receive a soccer ball and camp T-shirt.

"Every year, we welcome many young people to our recreational soccer camps, which is a great way to have fun, build individual soccer skills, as well as team soccer skills. Our focus is always on learning, having fun and modeling and emphasizing the value of team sports, " said Ivan Jackson, MSC Director of Coaching.

Jackson holds National Soccer Coaches Association of America Advanced National and Director of Coaching diplomas. In addition, Jackson holds a NSCAA Premier license, U.S. Soccer Federation "B" coaching license and numerous English FA coaching diplomas.

Select Soccer Summer Camps

MSC also offers Select Summer Camps annually for players age 8 through 11 and players age 12 through 17. Every child who has been playing soccer on a Select team is encouraged to attend. Both camps focus on Individual player development through technical, tactical & functional training, includes small group training, small-sided games and 11v11 games, as well as individual player assessments. Each camp participant will receive a ball, t-shirt and swag bag.

Recreational Fall Registration; Register now for both Fall and Spring and Save

Signup is underway for the MSC Fall Recreational Soccer Program, starting with children aged 4 and older through age 18. New this year is the opportunity to register for both the Fall and Spring seasons and save money. Registration fees start at $65 per season for the youngest children ($110 for both Fall and Spring) to $90 per season ($165 for both Fall and Spring). Practice begins in early August. Select Strikers Tryouts

Tryouts for youth who would like to play select soccer for Murfreesboro Strikers team begin in May through June, depending on the age of the prospective player. All tryouts are open to all young people who meet the age requirements.

"Every player will have an equal and fair opportunity to make a Murfreesboro Soccer Club select team," said Ivan Jackson, MSC Director of Coaching. "Each open tryout and player evaluation will consist of either on or two sessions, depending on the age of the player. We will have team coaches and specific age group coaches plus a technical director observing each tryout and forming teams with a separate coach running each session. That way, we have multiple views from multiple individuals of each player, and all views will be used to determine the player's placement. Our goal is to field as many competitive teams as possible."
