Riverdale Sports Hall of Fame Induction January 18th

Riverdale High School is set to induct several new members to their "Sports Hall of Fame." A ceremony will be held the night Riverdale plays Oakland, Saturday, January 18th. Girls basketball coach Cory Barrett says it's a big honor for the inductees...

A reunion will be held at 5pm with the game tipping off at 6pm. Riverdale Assistant Principal Judy Sides will conduct the ceremony between games. For a list of the inductees, go to WGNSRadio.com, keyword Riverdale Hall of Fame.

INDUCTEES:

Bernice Brown – A versatile All Mid State guard – 3rd team all state – signed at Jackson State

Tammy Crown – All District – scored 1460 points as a 4 year starter (was the RHS leading scorer when she graduated– District Champion and leading rebounder and shot blocker her senior season – signed at Radford University in Virginia.

Kelley Ervin – All mid state guard on Riverdale’s first district champion and was an outstanding defensive player.

Krystal Horton – All Mid State and All State – a star at Central Middle, Riverdale and MTSU – won national honors and was a team leader in every area.

Jeff Jordan – a long time supporter and former teacher at RHS, broadcaster and reporter for hundreds of games including all 18 state tournament games.

LaKale Malone – an elite player – a member of the 1000 point club – all mid state and all state – went to Indiana.

Keith Short – an outstanding teacher and coach – won 133 games at Riverdale and 431 overall – went to 6 state tournaments .

Patty Thompson – an All Mid state guard and was the first player at Riverdale to be a 4 year starter.

Melanie Davenport – was an outstanding guard – her freshman team was unbeaten, her junior team was district champion and her senior team was state runner up.

The 1979 team will also be presented a plaque for their 31 – 1 record as state runner up. Buddy Pate and Asst. Coach Shelia Long will accept the plaque.
