Two tractor-trailer drivers escaped serious injury when rocks crashed through the windshields of their trucks about 1 a.m. February 18 on Interstate 24 near the Ridley Earp overpass.

Someone apparently threw a rock from the overpass, striking and shattering the windshields of the commercial trucks from Georgia, said Detective Richard Brinkley.

“Fortunately, no one was injured,” Detective Brinkley said. “I spoke to both drivers. They felt like it could have been deadly.”

One of the drivers observed rocks on the interstate but did not see anyone. They drove to Love’s Truck stop to report the crime. Damage was set at $300 apiece.

Patrol deputies were conducting extra patrols in the area to watch for suspects.

“Any suspect information would be greatly appreciated,” Detective Brinkley said.

People who have information about the suspect or suspects may call the Criminal Investigations Division at 904-3038 or 904-3039.
