News Radio WGNS, Primetime Sports and Little Caesar's Pizza are again excited to present All Sports Trophies to Rutherford County Middle Schools who've excelled in sports this year. The races for both boys and girls once again came down to the results of spring sports.

For the second year in a row, Oakland Middle School has won or tied for all three trophies - girls, boys and overall.

Oakland and Siegel both tied for the girls all sports trophy this year. The Lady Chargers were runners-up to the Lady Cavaliers in both the regular season and in the championship game for soccer this year. Siegel volleyball won both the regular season title and tournament championship. Oakland finished second in girls basketball during the regular season, with Siegel coming in fourth. The Lady Chargers also finished number one in the softball regular season and claimed the tournament championship.

A very close race for the boy's trophy came down to several schools. Oakland's second place regular season finish in baseball and their tournament championship put them over the top. The Chargers also claimed a third place finish in football during the regular season and a second place finish in boys basketball during the regular season and in the tournament. Oakland finished three points ahead of Rock Springs and just six ahead of Whitworth-Buchanan and Rockvale.

With Oakland claiming both boys and girls all sports trophies, the points awarded for each sport gave them a 12-point finish ahead of Siegel for the overall all sports trophy.

Points are awarded to schools based on their regular season finish in volleyball, girls and boys soccer, football, girls and boys basketball, softball and baseball. The tournament champion and runner up are also awarded points based on their finish. Those points are tallied and at the end of the school year, NewsRadio WGNS, Primetime Sports and Little Caesar's Pizza present the awards. We'll have some photos soon on our website when we make the presentations to the student athletes.

You can view the season ending points totals on our website at WGNSRadio.com (follow this hyperlink).

Congratulations to all Rutherford County Middle School athletes on a fantastic sports year!
