Rutherford County School Board to meet in person Thursday night

As previously scheduled and announced, the Rutherford County Board of Education will meet at the district's central office for their regularly scheduled board meeting on Thursday night (4/16) at 5 p.m. The meeting will be in-person for board members. WGNS NEWS was told that the Board will practice social distancing during the meeting.

Some of the items to be discussed include the approval of a teacher tenure list for educators who have been with the county schools for the past five years within a seven year period and has performed "above expectations." New science text books will be recommended, capital projects will be highlighted and the school leave policy for teachers and staff will be clarified, due to the COVID-19 closure.

Another item that has been impacted since the pandemic, is that many families are asking for refunds for things they previously paid for but their child never took part in due to the schools closing. It has been recommended that certain refunds be approved.

The Thursday night meeting will be broadcast live on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, on the RCTV website and Comcast Channel 19.

Those who want to watch the meeting are encouraged to do so remotely.
